The likes of Robyn, Taylor Swift, Foals and Laura Whitmore walked the red carpet to initiate the show. The chic celebrity styles stayed true to the ever-present edgy mood of our NME favourites. Comedian Katherine Ryan and DJ Julie Adenuga hosted the ceremony which began with Mura Masa and Slowthai performing their indie banger Deal Wiv It. Slowthai later made social media headlines after getting into an altercation with a member of the audience whilst collecting his Hero of the Year Award. Guests criticised the rapper for misogynistic comments he made towards Katherine Ryan on stage. He quickly fired back, throwing his mic and drink at the audience in response. Security were called to restrain the argument, which led on to a physical altercation between Slowthai and the crowd. The artist later apologised, admitting his actions were “shameful” in a remorse filled Twitter post the following day.

Whilst Taylor Swift proclaimed her love for the NME’s as the “craziest award show I’ve ever been to.” Highlighting the unprecedented arts culture celebrated by the platform.
